Q. Where can I find information about the history of Brentwood, New York?

I think your best bet would be the Brentwood Public Library. They have a wonderful local history section on the history, founding of the town, etc. It was founded as "Modern Times" in the 1800s. There are a number of books at various public libraries in Suffolk County. Here's the website to search http://alpha2.suffolk.lib.ny.us/search. I put Modern TImes Brentwood in the search box. You may be able to order books from your public library, even if the books are at other public libraries. It's possible that items from the  local history collection are not available to send to other libraries, but you can ask you own public library.

At our library, there are some old newspaper articles that may help. Go to the college website, Explore Academics, Library, and click on Articles and Databases under Research Links. Then, click on newspapers and go to Suffolk Historic Newspapers. I put in "Brentwood History" as the search term. (At some point, if you are off-campus, you will be asked for your username and password.)

Good luck. If you need more help, please feel free to email me, but I may not be able to answer until after the weekend. If you need more help before that, try the "Ask a Librarian" link again.
