How can I use Google Scholar to access the college's journal subscriptions from off-campus?

Answer

To set your Library Links in Google Scholar:

  • Go to scholar.google.com.
  • Click on the Settings link or the cog icon. Look for the three horizontal lines.
  • Click on Library Links on the menu on the left.
  • Type Suffolk County Community College in the search box and hit the search button.
  • Check the box next to Suffolk County Community College and open World Cat.
  • Hit the Save button.

Now your results list will show items you can access. If an item has available @ SCCC next to it (on the right-hand side) you will be able to access it in full-text. These are the articles in journals available through the library's subscriptions. Click on the available @ SCCC link and you will be prompted to authenticate with your MYSCCC ID and password if you are off campus. This allows you to avoid the frustration of clicking on a PDF link and bring prompted to pay for the article.

Remember that the library does not subscribe to every journal due to budget constraints.  If you are having trouble locating an item contact the reference desk at any of the campus libraries or use the live chat icon during regular business hours.  The library's Interlibrary Loan service  may be needed in order for you to request some of the more obscure or higher level materials that are not available the SCCC Libraries.
