Reference sources typically provide background information on a given topic.  They are useful when starting your research as you can find information including basic facts or biographies on a topic or person, important dates, definitions, etc.
 
Common reference sources are encyclopedias, dictionaries, source books, atlases, and almanacs, but there are many other types.  They can be found in print and online.  The Library has a wide variety of reference sources and databases.  Use the link below to find and access our online reference sources.
