How do I find a book on the shelf?
Answer
The SCCC libraries use the Library of Congress Call Number system to organize print books on the shelves. The call number is a (alpha/numeric) code to describe the subject of the book. See the "How to Read Library of Congress Call Numbers."
The books are arranged in Alphabetical order by the first letter or two in the call number. A sticker on the spine of the book shows the call number of that book. For example: LB2395.C65 2023
To find a book on the shelf:
1. Use the OneSearch box on the library homepage and choose the "Books & Videos" tab to search for a book. Enter a search term or name of the book and click Search.
2. From the search results, find the book you interested in.
3. The words "Available at" will display the Campus Library (Ammerman, Grant, or Eastern) and the appropriate collection or section of the library that the book is found in; examples include: (Circulating, Reserve, Popular, New, Reference, ESL, Oversized, etc.).
4. The Library of Congress call number of the book will be listed next; for example: Available at Grant Library Circulating (ML3830 .J87 2019)
5. Go to the library shelves and match the Call Number with the sticker on the book.
6. If you still need help, ask the librarian sitting at the Reference Desk.
