Primary sources are characterized by their content. They may be available in their original format, microfilm/microfiche, digital format or published format. For example, the Constitution of the United States is a primary source that is available in many formats. Likewise, the Mona Lisa (painting) is an original work of art that may be viewed in digitized format or published in a book.
