What is a primary source?

Answer

A primary source is an original record, first-hand testimony or evidence of an event or creation.  Examples include diaries, speeches, maps, photos, legal documents, original research, and artistic creations.

The Library of Congress has links to many primary sources.

Opposing Viewpoints, one of our Current Issues databases also often provides primary sources for each of the topics it features.
